Meet Jenny Smiley — Colorado Based Wedding & Elopement Photographer

In my Amazing Client Interview Series, I dive into the story & heart behind my client’s businesses. Naturally, in hopes we can all fall in love and support each other!

This week, meet the sincerely beautiful Jenny Smiley. She was such a dreamy client with a portfolio that simply captured my heart. I can’t even explain it. Something about the natural beauty in every bride, paired with the almost painterly quality of the Rocky Mountains simply makes my heart sing.

Give me the gist of your business…

I am a Colorado-based elopement and intimate wedding photographer. I love working the most IN-LOVE, fun, and easy going couples here, there, and everywhere! I want to capture the unforgettable moments behind every love story without it ever feeling like a photoshoot.

What really lights you up about what you do?

I LOVE weddings. Surprise. I love the dress, the flowers, and how everything comes together no matter how big or small the celebration is. More than anything, I love the moments I get to capture. Everything from the formal portraits, unexpected moments and in-between moments as two people and two families join together to celebrate.

Who is your ideal customer and how can you help?

I love working with the easy going, fun, and adventurous couples that radiate their love for one another. If you are any or all of these things that is exactly how I want you to feel when we work together. Our time together should feel like a fun date and should never feel like a photoshoot.

Tell me about your entrepreneurial journey. Where did it begin, and how has it been so far?

I've always had a love for photography. I took a film photography class in high school and an architectural photography course in college. Once I graduated with a degree in architecture I worked a 9-5 job for years at an architecture firm taking pictures of the finished homes we worked on. Then, one day my coworker asked me to take her engagement pictures and eventually her wedding! It was the first time I had ever photographed people and I fell in love with it. It was so emotional and stimulating to have personality in my photos...not just a building. I officially started my photography business in 2018 and have been learning and growing ever since. It was really slow to start, I had a lot of friends getting engaged and I participated in a few styled shoots to grow and perfect my content, but now I'm booking up every season! It's really exciting to work towards something that you really enjoy and watch it grow every single day.

If you could sum up your design journey with me in one word, what would it be? Don't be shy ; )

Two words...Fun and Effortless. Everything that I thought would be difficult she made fun and handled so quick and effortlessly!

In love? Me too!
